Welcome to Pasifika Psychology Hub
Pasifika Psychology Hub offers calm, practical wellbeing resources for Pacific families, young people, parents and the clinicians who support them.
Why this hub exists
Many Pacific people are carrying a lot: family obligations, faith, money, belonging between cultures, and the pressure to be strong. Most mental health resources are not written with that in mind. This hub brings together everyday psychological tools, such as CBT-informed exercises, grounding and breathing, with Pacific ways of understanding wellbeing, including the Fonofale model, the vā and talanoa.
An independent, community-minded project
Pasifika Psychology Hub is an independent educational project. We keep the focus on the resources and the ideas behind them rather than on individuals. You can judge them for yourself: the sources are named, the examples are made up, and the limits are stated plainly.
How the resources are made
- Guides draw on published frameworks, including the Fonofale model (Fuimaono Karl Pulotu-Endemann, 1984), vā (Albert Wendt and Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese; Melani Anae on teu le vā), talanoa (Timote Vaioleti) and cognitive behavioural therapy.
- Examples use made-up people and families. They are never real clients.
- The Pacific is many nations and cultures. The resources aim to respect that, and to say clearly when something is one community’s practice rather than all of ours.
- Each resource should be read as education and self-help, and we encourage you to talk with someone you trust, or a qualified professional, about anything that matters to you.
What this is not
These resources are not therapy, diagnosis or emergency help, and they do not replace care from a doctor or mental health professional. They are a starting point for reflection and practice.
